In natural perfumery it is used to create sophisticated leather or spice accords, enrich amber bases, and add a gilded edge to floral perfumes. It is an excellent fixative lasting hours on the skin and adding longevity to blends. Extracted from the delicate stigmas of Crocus sativus , it is one of the most labor-intensive natural aromatics to produce, requiring hundreds of thousands of saffron crocus flowers to yield just one kilogram of saffron extract.
