PASSIONFLOWER - MILLEFLUER #3 has arrived as a moody mélange of creative endeavors. With its Soft Animal underbelly it reads a tale of sensual longing and the many efforts love takes on the journey to getting it right-enough. Half wilted osmanthus flowers lend their chewy fruit leather to the atmosphere, while a faint remembrance of cigar tobacco and well loved upholstery muscles its way through the drydown. Melted together with sweet bee waxes, the odd salicylates of natural tuberose, and a million drops of trying, Passionflower is an accidental olfactory capture of the complicated relationship between hope, pessimism, grief, desire, ageing, mortality, and the hard but worthy work of expressing deep devotion within the parenthesis of a global pandemic. PASSIONFLOWER is a perfume extrait created by the receiving of all the perfumery aromatics that otherwise would be lost to the siphon of pipettes. Each time we make perfume, the remaining material gets washed in perfume alcohol, added to the mother batch, and then rests. This perfume "wash" accumulates new layers each time one of my perfumes is made, creating an incredibly complex, mysterious, nuanced perfume that can never again be created. In perfumery it's often called a "millefleur") Passionflower contains natural ethically sourced animalic materials therefore is not vegan. One man's trash is another man's treasure - as the old adage goes. Indeed, while we have what some might say is the waste, I can't agree. It's something different though, for sure. It's an improvisation made of its own will. Void of my creative control, but consisting of the most expensive, valuable, exquisite aromatic materials in natural perfumery, it's an honoring of these materials so they are not wasted but put into the art they were meant to become.
