Selkie - The seals always know. She’d lost the Irish accent years before. She’d lost the husband, too. He who had taken her skin, so long ago on that Northern shore. He’d known the tales and was grateful to have caught a pretty wife. It was no hardship to be his wife for a few years - she knew the sea would take its price. She’d always known where her skin was; it was part of her after all. After the sea took him, she took back what was hers. But she liked this new human life. She liked the adventure of it. The only trick was staying immortal in a changing world required a dance of place. Portugal. Morocco. Florida. Belize. Warm seas felt better on this thin human skin. She didn’t mind the travel. And she loved meeting new friends in each of the seas. They whispered that she still smelled of the North Sea.
